Rounding off a brilliant year with our last event that took place in Brazil last week. Russian and Kazakh mining executives were welcomed by the MSG Serra Grande mine and had detailed peer-reference discussions, technical site visits to the underground gold mine and the processing plant and attended boardroom presentations by highly specialised technical teams at major technology and manufacturing companies.

Proven practices that reduce workplace incidents, industrial hygiene (IH) exposure assessments and monitoring technologies currently in use to overcome the unique challenges facing mining enterprises were the focus of discussions between top Mining executives from Russia and a global panel of presenters including peers representing Boliden and Dundee Precious Metals.

Decision making through enterprise-wide risk management and why companies that focus on their people are among the most successful and competitive in the world were among the key highlights of the event. Global case studies and research insights demonstrated how engaging with staff is driving cultural improvements on safety, wellbeing, sustainability and productivity.

Technical presentations on new technologies including heated leach, ore sorting, comminution circuit design, mine tailings safety and modern conveyor design were also discussed.  Thank you to all our speakers including MOP group, ABB, Martin Engineering, Mincore, Satarla, Alfa Laval and others for their engaging talks and sharing latest innovations.

Exclusive online interactions were organised for a high-level team representing the Internal Audit Service (IAS) at Kazakhstan Railways. Discussions centered around evidence-based work in terms of analysis of economic impacts of new technologies on internal audit, processes and policies in UK enterprises and their digital transformation journey.

Safety is a fundamental issue for the rail industry in the UK. The Office of Rail and Road, a non-ministerial government department spoke to the delegates about H&S management in the UK rail industry, investigating health and safety incidents, the risk management maturity model and industry supplier approval process.

Presentations covering aspects of business ethics, best practice approaches to combating corrupt practices, how automation is becoming more real and accessible for internal audit departments, lean and agile steps towards IA planning and more enabled ongoing discussions and debate.

Discussions on a variety and depth of sustainable finance issues and bringing green financial products into the mainstream took place between teams from Russian banking and metallurgical enterprises and European experts who shared strategies on adapting capital project investments to effects of climate-related financial risks, latest developments and scope of sustainable finance. The event shed light on an insightful and global overview of sustainability including the governance structure, green financing framework, policy around Human Rights and environment including equator principles and responsible practices related to community investment by Deutsche Bank.
Case studies from the Indian industry where renewable energy has played a role in achieving the net zero emissions target for companies and transparent business best practices that can improve stakeholder trust were highlighted by the India Ambassador of University of Cambridge Institute for Sustainability Leadership who also shared best practices from India’s top companies for Sustainability and CSR.
Case studies of the common challenges in sustainability and the social performance trends and issues that mining companies are facing globally were also discussed. The Climate Bonds Initiative that aims to promote sustainability on a macro level talked about market architecture developments: EU sustainable finance regulation; Russian taxonomy and qualifying assets.
The event generated interest from numerous experts such as Lead Scientists, Heads of Cleantech and legal sector subject matter leaders including those representing the prestigious Oxford Sustainable Finance Programme.

Earlier this month, we successful concluded an online event discussing leading-edge strategies, frameworks and best practices focusing on increasing the value of the internal audit function and improving enterprise-wide risk decisions, helping auditors to conduct financial and compliance audits in an economic and effective manner. Practitioners, academics, consultants and solution providers from Hong Kong, UK, Spain, Netherlands, USA and Greece shared knowledge and perspectives on leveraging automation across the audit function and steps to strengthen and modernise audit & risk practices in response to covid crisis.

Online event organised for senior HR executives discussing a
host of HR and compliance related issues and key skills and tools that will be integral to the continued development of workforce of the future.
Experts from Germany, Singapore, UK and Australia shared perspectives on reskilling in the age of automation and their experience with using virtual reality tools for employer recruitment and training. Other key areas discussed included SMART goal management, employee engagement, talent digitisation, organisational effective SS framework supported by practical examples of organisations that have successfully transformed their HR practices in the current climate.
